a great May day

Sunday was too nice a day to miss.

Enough snow for a pleasant xc ski and blue sky too. The newly sealed track along the aqueduct was great for this and let us get a good look at the lodge and the maze

First tracks on the Summit?

The lodge looks great under snow

And the lift company think the conditions are good enough to start grooming and snowmaking. Roll on Opening weekend...

It's snowing!

The snow cams are telling a great story this morning. Just thing to warm a skier's heart.

bonus for introducing new members

The capital raising  for the redevelopment project has prompted some of our less active members to reconsider their membership. A number of members have decided to sell their debentures. While we are sad to see members leave the club, a steady injection of new active members is good for the club.

To encourage new members, the committee has decided to offer a bonus for members introducing new adult members to the club. If someone you introduce becomes a member by December 2012, you will receive a voucher for the equivalent of one week's accommodation at Adult Member high season rate.

Encouraging a friend to join the club helps your friend, the club, and your wallet.

new committee members

Congratulations  to Justin Checcucci and Robert Lake who have been elected to the committee at the recent AGM. The club is a sizeable enterprise and it is essential that we have a strong and enthusiastic committee. We are very grateful to Justin and Robert for joining the team.

A big thank you to Paul Kirkwood for his service on the committee. Paul has been the membership officer and was very involved in putting together the business case required by FCRM as part of our lease application. Just because he's moved to Queensland won't stop him visiting the lodge regularly.

child care

The Falls Creek Child Care centre is now accredited as an Approved Care Provider.

The centre is open every day of the season and caters for children from 12 weeks to 5 years old. There is more information, and a downloadable brochure,  in the Falls Creek Info tab of this site

ice plunge

The annual first day of winter Ice Plunge is on again next Friday. There are prizes for those brave enough to plunge into the waters of Rocky Valley Dam and free brekkie for everyone.

More info at www.fallscreek.com.au/IcePlunge

If you're in the area, take the plunge or cheer on those who do. Even if you can't make, it will probably make the metropolitan news, so see if you can spot any Falls Creek locals.

working bee 2012

There were still a few patches of early snow in the village, but Falls Creek turned on some blue sky for the working bee. We worked, hard, had a great time and the lodge is all ready for a great snow season.

Some of the jobs were concerned with putting things back after the redevelopment. Others were routine maintenance.
  • Saturday morning saw the human chain manhandling firewood from the top road to the firewood store, with lots of care not to damage the new cladding.

  • Our lease conditions include looking after the vegetation on the site. Saturday afternoon saw much spreading of rocks, mulch and straw to start the process.

  • Going through all the kitchen equipment, crockery & cutlery and cleaning everything in sight is a massive job too

  • The new barbecue was assembled ( & christened), looking towards the summit now. There's a nice bar table next to it to assist the cooks.
  • The satellite dish is up and the TVs are connected
  • New wireless access points were installed to extend coverage to all the bedrooms and the games room
  • The new hifi has been installed and speakers set up again
  • Weather station and the games room monitor have been reinstalled
  • All the chairs and most of the tables have been varnished
  • The spa has been serviced, repaired and restocked
  • New treads on the stairs between front door and boot room
  • Kitchen bin runners etc have been repaired so they slide more smoothly
  • and lots of little maintenance jobs

Thanks to Andrew & Myra for making sure our energy levels stayed high, and  everyone else who attended for their hard work and good humour
