You will be shocked to learn that Ross B didn't win this year.
That makes more sense when I add that the race had to be cancelled because of the blizzard conditions.

Club Race - Waiver Form
When reviewing the various insurance policies held by the club, the committee was very disappointed to learn that it was not possible to obtain cover for ski racing. The risk of a member seeking to sue the club in connection with a race is tiny, but if it did arise it could be ruinous.
The lift company already requires race participants to sign a liability waiver to protect the company. The club needs adult competitors to also sign a waiver form exluding liability for the club and waiving right to sue. Competitors under 18 will need to have their adult guardian sign their form.
Participants need to decide for themselves (or their child or minor under their guardianship) that the course and conditions on the day are suitable for their skills and abilities. There is no obligation or pressure for members to participate if they are not confident about the course or conditions, regardless of whether they have previously entered or said they intended to race.

The Falls Creek team had a clean sweep with the A team 1st, B team 2nd, Masters 1st and also 3rd overall.

clean sweep by AAC Falls Creek
AAC Falls Creek played host on Saturday 31/8/13 to teams from Anton, Dinner Plain and Niseko. On a fine (and unseasonally warm) Saturday morning, 4 clubs battled it out on the Nastar course.
The home team made a clean sweep with the youngsters starting to make their presence felt.
The races concluded with presentations and a lovely dinner prepared by Andrew and Myra.

Race Weekend 2013
The race this year was held on Nastar due to inclement weather conditions.
We had 35 competitors in what turned out to be a fun course that catered for all abilities but still allowed the champs of the club to show their class.
The day concluded with a Race evening dinner and a theme of "A Taste of Orange" which included Orange - music, decorations, food and fancy dress.
As always we would like to thank our Race Captain - John Cameron for his wonderful organisation of the event and to Andrew and Myra for the great evening.

Race weekend fun
One of the most exciting activities of an Alpine Ski Club is its annual club ski races. Club races provide a great opportunity for members of all skiing abilities to compete in a fun and friendly environment. Racing is a great motivator to help improve your technique and a great way to judge if all that practice is working!
The Australian Alpine Club - Falls Creek is one such club to hold annual ski races, this year on Father Fosters. Sharing the race course with Riverina Ski Club, AAC entered 32 competitors on a Giant Slalom course set up and run by Falls Creek Ski lifts.
The competition comprises two timed runs for each competitor, the second run in the reverse order to the first. Categories include adult male, adult female and children. There is also a snowboarding category.
Skiing conditions last Saturday were particularly ‘friendly’ with competitors being greeted with good visibility and a dusting of fresh snow on smooth easy to ski course. A strong head wind meant going too fast wasn’t going to be a problem. Children loved the conditions, with the smiles on their faces telling the story as they completed each run.

The day concluded with a ‘Retro Theme’ club dinner and trophy presentations back at the lodge. It was great to see the old one piece suits and fluro tops getting one more chance to be worn! The mirrored disco ball and 80’s music also got a work out late into the evening.

Race weekend report
The annual club race was held on Father Fosters race course on Saturday 6th August.
Conditions were truly awful but a valiant brigade turned up to race, along with an equally courageous crew from Riverina Ski Club. A few centimetres of fresh wet snow over a soft rain affected base made for heavy work inspecting the course. Generous salting turned it into a rather narrow icy track. There were a few spills, including yours truly, but most survived to take their second run.
Despite the poor conditions, everyone was in good spirits and there were smiles all around as people completed the course. An added touch of humour came from the misreading of names by the course announcer, coupled with some people racing in numbers originally assigned to others. So David Stogdale, racing in Noel Poon's number was announced as Noah (seemed appropriate given the weather). But perhaps best of all was Rose Baker for our champion Ross Barker.
Andrew & Myra were joined by some scouting friends to put on a fabulous spread for dinner. In particular, Watson won lots of friends with his lemon tart, vanilla cheesecake and chocolate hazelnut gateau. Thanks for a great dinner!
Thanks also to Nigel for stepping into John Cameron's shoes for the weekend to organise bibs, results etc.

come to Race Weekend: August 5-7
It's not too late to book in for Race Weekend - there are still a few rooms available for this special club weekend.
Race Weekend is not just for experienced racers, it's a fun weekend for all members.
The race is designed to be fun for kids and intermediates as well as the experts. You can ski or board, and maybe we might even see some telemark skis this year. Racing happens first thing on Saturday morning, with course inspection followed by 2 runs each. The rest of the weekend is available for free skiing. Dinner is provided on Saturday night and it's a great social time with everyone seated at one long table. There are awards for children under 13 and for grownups and a few fun awards.
It's a great opportunity to get to know other members better, challenge yourself in a friendly race and enjoy a great night in the lodge. If you haven't tried it, give it a go this year.

AAC Falls Creek retained its grip on the Roslyn Wesche trophy at the AAC interclub races held on Saturday 5 September through the efforts of Ross, Emma and Melissa. Falls Creek was followed by Anton, Dinner Plain, Perisher and Niseko. Anton won the Masters category, followed by Southern Alps and Falls Creek.
The races were hosted by AAC Dinner Plain and held on the Sun Run slope at Hotham. Southern Alps Ski Club has offered to host the 2010 races at Thredbo.

The Kangaroo Hoppet is on this Saturday 29th August from 9am at the Nordic Bowl, Falls Creek. With over 1200 participants, and more than 20 nations taking part, the Kangaroo Hoppet is the largest annual international winter sports event in the southern hemisphere.
Members and their guests staying at the AAC Falls Creek lodge will be able to watch the competitors at the start and finish of the 42km, 21km & 7km cross country ski races. Competitors skill levels range from elite Olympic and National Team members to first year skiers, with ages ranging from five to over eighty.
Spectators can make their way to the Nordic Bowl by walking along the Bogong High Plains Rd for approximately 20 minutes (approx 800m past Windy Corner). Alternatively they can ski to the Nordic Bowl via the aqueduct.
There will be a BBQ, hot beverages and snacks available, along with entertainment from Pete the Snow Dragon and local musician Richard Perso.
